I knew as soon as I saw that tavern scene with Jack Rackham telling the story to that young "man" it was Mary Read. Also I knew that was a woman's voice. And it was confirmed when she joined him to meet Ann back at the ship when Jack introduced her to Ann, asking what his name was again & she replied, "Mark Read".Read more >
Toby Schmitz (born 4 May 1977) is an Australian actor and playwright.
He was born in Perth, Western Australia, attended Perth's Scotch College and briefly studied law at the University of Western Australia. He graduated from the acting course at National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1999 and has performed many times on stage for Sydney Theatre Company, Company B at Belvoir St Theatre and Griffin Theatre Company. He has also appeared in film and television, and writes plays.
On Black Sails, as Captain Jack Rackham, Toby Schmitz delivers a beautifully powerful & flawless proper British accent that he had little time to learn. I thought he was actually British until I learned he's in fact Austrailian. He doesn't talk like a typical pirate a…Read more >

“ It's a pirate's life for me. ”
Just like some others I like to write. It would be awesome if you could audition some characters to my story. The show is set in the Caribbean Sea for the most part. There will be a part of the story set in Asia, not for long though. It will take place in the 18th century (around 1770). The story is about three captains who desperately want the same thing.

So we know that Hornigold gives his ship to Gates and I'm pretty certain that they called his ship the Royal Lion meaning a formal Royal Navy ship called the Lion. However, during the entire last episode they call the other ship the Ranger, which is Vane's ship. Did we miss something?Read more >
A couple of thoughts on grammar:
1) Ship names ALWAYS need to be italicized.
2) Episode articles should be written in present tense i.e. "Billy informs Dufresne that he must fight. Dufresne is afraid because he has never even fired a gun." Character articles should be written in past tense i.e. "Billy informed Dufresne that he must fight. Dufresene was afraid because he had never even fired a gun."
3) References to characters should use their last name if possible i.e. "Bones showed Silver around" not "Bones showed John around". The exception to this, in my opinion, should be 'Eleanor' since there is another Guthrie.Read more >
