There are many moments in season 4, where I actually understood and liked Max.
But the earlier seasons, and even a bit in the ending of season 4, I found her really really annoying especially on 2 things: 1) how she treated Elenor and was angry with her 2) how she was so clingly to Anne Bonny and almost came between Anne and Jack.
In the first season, the terrible experiences Max went trhough were her own fault and not Elenor's and yet she blamed them on her just because Elenor didn't want to leave everything she worked so hard to build to run away with Max.
Elenor sacrficed so much for her in season 1. She tried to protect Max from Vane's retribution. When Vane's and Jack's attempt to set her free from his men under the conver of night failed and Elenor found out that Vane gave her to the men in the first place, Elenor even "exiled" Vane even if it cost her. And then Max says "He didn't do this, you did." And decides to let herself become a prisoner again of Vane's men. She was so stupid.
And then in season 4, she never apologized to Elenor. Elenor did some shady things. She betrayed Vane more than once, but she never ever betrayed Max. She was always loyal to Max and Max treated her like dirt. I like that she sort of tried to be on Elenor's side in season 4, but she never apologized. And in the end, with Elenor's grandma's help Max gets everything Elenor wished for - it felt grating a bit.
I get that Elenor is no saint, but the only real person whi had the right to be angry at Elenor was Charles Vane. Max had no right.
I also hated her clingyness to Anne Bonny. People say there was chemistry - there wasn't. I'm glad Anne and Jack were still going strong in the end.
